From 2 February to 1 March, Seven Investment Management held events for financial planners in nine UK locations.
7IM experts were joined by Mark Polson and Mike Barrett of the lang cat. As well as Merryn Somerset Webb from MoneyWeek. On the day delegates gained insights on the regulatory environment, expectations of markets and politics in 2017, and how we can help planners support their clients and grow their businesses amongst other topics.
Thank you to all of those who attended any of our sessions - we hope it was an interesting and informative day. Not everyone was able to join us on the day but if you missed it, or would like to take another look at the presentations we’ve added all of them below.
The New Abnormal - Markets & Currencies - 7IM Investment Management Team
In this market update, our Investment Management team addresses the responses from capital and currency markets to the rampant political risk. We explore why populations are reacting to globalisation now given it’s not a new economic force. And, following a 30 year bond rally, we explain how the team at 7IM is reacting to the loss of fixed income as a safe haven. Read more about how we’re using Alternatives in the portfolios here.
Regulation Reality Check – Mark Polson & Mike Barrett, the lang cat
In his quick regulation review Mark Polson discusses FAMR, MiFID II and interim Asset Management Review. His presentation answers the questions about what’s actually changing, what’s expected to change and what impact this will have on planners and their clients. A Radical Rethink on Risk - 7IM Investment Management Team
In the new world of lower expected returns from fixed income and longer savings horizons, we investigate whether conventional wisdom is wrongly focused on a narrow definition of what risk really means. We quantify the trade-off between the different levers savers can pull to ensure they think through the implications for strategies that have historically been adopted to manage risk.
The New Investment Services from 7IM - 7IM Relationship Management Team
7IM continue to innovate to support our financial planning partners, this time with substantial developments to our Discretionary and Model Portfolio Services – both onshore and offshore. This short presentation highlights those innovations.
Keynote speaker - Merryn Somerset Webb
Editor of Moneyweek, Merryn Somerset Webb didn’t have any slides for her London speaking slot. But her compelling talk introduced her view on why companies had been able to manage their operations to their own agenda and what could be done to rein in their ability to avoid controls. You can read the article which followed here.
