Iran and Everything Else
Events in Iran, and one small but significant stretch of water, have suddenly intensified and escalated. The real-world economic issue of global oil supply is coupled with the fact that with more of the global population now living and working in the new cities of the Middle East, this conflict now feels a lot closer than previous episodes.
Geopolitical tension does bad things to our brains. The temptation to do something, to sell down portfolios and reach for cash can be overwhelming. At the moment, we don’t think there’s any reason for clients to panic – but it’s our job to explain why we feel that way.
We’ll review why we’re still feeling OK and what we’re watching out for in markets, economies and politics.
What we’ll cover
- The latest developments in the Iran conflict and the geopolitical dynamics shaping events
- Potential implications for global energy supply, shipping routes and inflation
- How markets have been reacting so far
- Key watchpoints for advisers in the weeks ahead
